Des O’Callaghan is a semi-retired Business Continuity professional, currently dividing his time between independent consulting, teaching and active roles in professional associations. Between 1989 and 2010 he held leadership BCM positions in several Canadian companies, primarily in the financial sector, most recently with Manulife Financial, where he was the Director of Global Continuity Services. Des is an accomplished business continuity educator, having developed and delivered courses for a number of organizations, including George Brown College in Toronto, the Business Continuity Institute and Continuity Link. He has presented at many seminars and conferences over the years, including WCDM on several occasions. He is currently Communications Director for the Business Continuity Institute’s Canadian Chapter and Leader of its Greater Toronto Area Forum He recently concluded a term as Canada’s representative on the BCI’s Global Membership Council.
In 1996 Des received his Fellow level designation from the BCI, the first Canadian so honoured. A long-time member, Director and champion of the Disaster Recovery Information Exchange in Toronto, he held board positions and was Editor of its quarterly Digest newsletter for over 20 years. In 2009 Des received CCEP’s National Award of Excellence for Business Continuity in Canada, presented at WCDM. in 2015 he received a BCI Global Achievement Award, presented in London at the BCI World Gala Dinner.
